Development Assistant

Development Assistant

Global Exchange, a nonprofit human rights organization based in San Francisco, is seeking a Development Assistant to join our fundraising team for 6-months (April – September 2011). The successful candidate will operate in all aspects of fundraising, including special events, grants, membership and individual giving.

The Development Assistant reports to the Development Director.

Job Requirements
• Solid written and verbal communication skills
• Highly motivated, creative and organized; detail-oriented

• Dedicated interest in human rights and social justice work;

Responsibilities include
• Executing a variety of administrative tasks in a timely fashion (including filing, database entry and maintenance)
• Assisting in the planning, organizing and running of special events
• Create and maintain organizational systems for the department; maintaining the deparment calendar, calendar of foundation grant and report deadlines, calendar of major donor meetings, calendar of membership projects, and minutes for department meeting
• Providing research and analysis for foundation prospecting
• Working with program staff and grants associate to develop, proofread and process grant reports, proposals and other foundation correspondence;
• Drafting correspondence to donors (thank you letters, boilerplate proposals,) as directed, proofread a variety of development materials
• Coordinating Holiday correspondence process;
• Supporting the Global Exchange Monthly Sustainer program;
• Develop and manage rapid response system for communicating with major donors around Global Exchange news updates and similar correspondence
• Maintaining and fostering positive relationships with stakeholders, including staff, donors and community partners
• Drafting and maintaining policies and procedures for the department; foundation files and database
• Assisting with major donor and membership cultivation and other fundraising activities;
• Other duties as assigned

Global Exchange devotes staff time to raising awareness among staff about issues of privilege and diversity and how these issues affect our work environment and our campaigns.
